'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' News: Film Opened Bigger In China Than In The U.S.
After officially premiering first in the US and then Europe in January, the newest "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" movie opened in the massive Chinese market this weekend--and it did impressively well. It made about $33 million on its first day and a whopping $70 million after just two days, according to several reports.
According to GameSpot, "Star Wars: Rogue One", by comparison, made $31 million for its opening weekend in China, which was a three-day tally. Another comparison to make is to the Michael Fassbender-starred "Assassin's Creed" movie, which made no more than $7 million for its opening in China.
As of the moment, "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" has now made around $175 million worldwide. Just like "Warcraft", "The Final Chapter" is faring much better internationally than domestically; the movie made only $26.5 million in the United States, a figure that the movie surpassed in China just on its first day.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," the sixth movie in the franchise series, is apparently the last one from director Paul W.S. Anderson and franchise lead actress Milla Jovovich. Across the six movies, the "Resident Evil" film series has already surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, making it far and away the undisputed most successful video game movie franchise ever made.
As for the "Resident Evil" video game series, Star Wars - Trendolizer has reported that "Resident Evil 7" has managed to ship around 3 million copies worldwide. The game's newest DLC, Not A Hero, is also coming out this Spring.
In other movie news, reports are centered on a box office report for the U.S. later today. Additionally, there will also be a roundup of all the winners from the 89th Academy Awards on a later date.
"Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is on a tear worldwide, and will continue to rock in the dough as people continue to watch the film series. If there ever will be the seventh installment, it would now be a new director and a new star.
