HTC One M8 vs. Mini 2 Release Date, Specs & Review: Device Expected Be Unveiled in Europe at Month's End
HTC has shrunk its flagship smartphone, the HTC One (M8) -- again.
Last year the Taiwan-based technology manufacturer released a smaller version of the award winning HTC One (M7) with the HTC One Mini. This year HTC is gearing up to release the HTC One Mini 2.
Unfortunately for North American consumers, there is no word yet when the miniature M8 will be released, according to Engadget.
However, the Guardian reported that HTC is expected to release the Mini 2 at the end of the month to European retailers.
The European publication got its hands on the latest mobile device and claimed that while the Mini 2 looks similar to the M8, the feel of it is quite different. The Mini 2 is reportedly "clad in metal" but strays away from the traditional use of one solid piece of aluminum.
The Mini 2 also weighs in at 137 grams or 0.3 pounds and is 10.6mm or about 0.42 inches thick, which remains heavier and thicker than the iPhone 5C and Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.
The Mini 2 sports a 4.5-inch screen with a 720p display and comes equipped with HTC's signature BoomSound. It runs on a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM AND 16GB of storage, according to the Guardian.
The Mini 2 is meant to be a cheaper alternative to the M8 for consumers who are a fan of HTC's smartphone devices while still remaining a premiere phone with impressive capabilities.
Apps, games, emailing, web browsing and video streaming perform at high speeds just like its enlarged M8 version.
Like all of HTC's smartphone devices, the Mini 2 runs on Android, which HTC used to create "Sense," a "top of the core Android software," The Guardian reported.
Unlike the M8's traditional 4 Ultrapixel DuoCamera, the Mini 2 has a 13-megapixel main camera, which doesn't allow users the same focus-after-capture capabilities as with the M8. But it still has the 5-megapixel-selfie camera on the front of the phone that has a wide aperture lens.
The Mini 2 is expected to be available in three colors and cost around £300.
