Jay-Z Music & Song News: 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' Star Reportedly Splits From Longtime Business Partner John Meneilly
It has recently been reported that Jay Z is no longer working with his longtime business partner John Meneilly, who helped the Brooklyn rapper build his undefeatable empire.
Meneilly is undoubtedly the man behind Hov's success -- he was responsible for managing Rocawear clothing line, Roc Nation, which has thrived from a record label to a talent management group now, as well as the emcee's huge deal with Samsung last year, which sold a million copies of his latest 2013 studio album "Magna Carta Holy Grail."
Although John Meneilly was credited as the rapper's manager on "MCHG," Jay Z has always been reluctant to call him his "manager," as he considered him more of his trusted "consigliore."
However, after all these years of working together, the pair has reportedly decided to part ways. A source claimed that Jay Z is the one who cut ties with his long-standing business manager, and John Meneilly did not want to leave at all. "It wasn't his choice," the source said.
On the other hand, another source close to the split said that the decision to end their partnership was pretty "amicable and mutual," and the agreement actually was made "a couple of months ago."
Myspace.com previously mentioned John Meneilly in its July 2013 story, "The Definitive Guide to Jay'Z 'Magna Carta Holy Grail' Album Credits." "Not much is known about John Meneilly, though he's been one of Jay Z's most trusted managers and business advisors for years now, brokering all kinds of power moves in the upper echelon of the Roc Nation world," the website read. "What we do know. Jay shouted him out in his 'A Milli' remix ('And John Meneilly-onaire is my consigliore') and that he's tweeted just three times, twice to boast that neither 'Watch the Throne' nor 'MCHG' would leak. Good track record so far."
