NBA News: Dwyane Wade Fractures Elbow, Done For Season
Dwayne Wade's first season with the Chicago Bulls has reportedly ended 14 games early due to a fractured right elbow. An MRI on Thursday has revealed a fractured bone and ligament damage in Wade's elbow, ruling him out for the remainder of the regular season.
According to NBA, with the Bulls at 32-36 and currently sitting in 10th place in the Eastern Conference, as well as having lost six of their last seven games, the team's playoff hopes are looking as grim and as less likely by the day. Dwayne Wade told reporters that it wasn't the way that he pictured to be the end of his first season with the Bulls, but he also added that "it is what it is."
Dwayne Wade suffered his recent injured in the fourth quarter of Wednesday night's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies when he collided with Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph. Wade said that after the game that he felt a couple of pops in his elbow area, and that the elbow was briefly dislocated when the incident happened.
Before the injury, Dwayne Wade was averaging 18.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in his first season with the Chicago Bulls. He has teamed up with All-Star Jimmy Butler to try and provide some much-needed scoring and veteran leadership to a team that is seemingly in transition to make some noise in the playoffs.
According to The Chicago Tribune, Dwayne Wade's scoring average this season is his lowest mark ever since his rookie season and his 43.4 percent shooting is the lowest of his career. However, his 31.5 percent from 3-point range is second of his career best mark.
Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said that Dwayne Wade's injury will not be changing the team's immediate goal of making the playoffs and there was also no plan on resting other veterans like Butler down the stretch. The Bulls are currently right on the heels of both Miami and Detroit, which have tied records of 33-35, for the eighth seed.
Dwayne Wade signed a two-year deal with the Bulls, which is a contract that has an option for Wade to opt out of this summer if he chooses to do so. Wade said on Thursday that it was still too early to decide whether he would forgo $23.8 million next season to become a free agent once again..
