Moto X Phone Release Date, Prices and Features: Handset May Come to Verizon by August 23
The hype on the Moto X may have died down with its launch, but people are still waiting for the American-made phone to be offered on major carriers such as AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile.
A leaked roadmap containing Moto X's Verizon release date indicates that the handset might come by Aug. 23. However, the image posted on Android Pit does not contain price details or the availability of Moto Maker for would-be Verizon Moto X users. Mashable says the company announced that the Moto X will be available on all major U.S. carriers by the end of August or early September.
Moto X, which was launched just recently, has been true to rumors that it will be a customizable phone. This capability can be achieved through the Moto Maker. The Moto Maker allows users to change the color and style of their handsets. They can even have a personal message engraved on the rear cover of the handset itself. There are 18 different rear colors to choose from and seven different accent colors, resulting in almost 2,000 possible color combinations.
"Your Moto X is truly yours, because you design it. Through our online studio, Moto Maker, you choose the colors, and decide on the details: front, back, accents, memory, wallpapers, even add a name or a short message," an official statement from Motorola said. "When you're done, we assemble your Moto X right here in the USA and ship it to you for free in 4 days or less."
Notably though, this feature is only available for AT&T but will be made available to other carriers soon.
The handset is priced at $199 (16GB) or $249 (32GB) with a 2-year contract and is a U.S.-only launch -- made and marketed in the U.S.
The Moto X sports a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 pixel screen, a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 with 2GB of RAM, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 10-megapixel rear camera and supports 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Miracast (wireless HDMI) and NFC.
Another interesting feature of the Moto X is the Touchless Control which allows users to control the handset using voice commands. Users simply have to say "Ok Google Now" followed by a specific command and the handset will respond by performing the desired action. The Moto X, however, has no micro SD card expansion and will only come with internal storage.
