Following the hugely awarded pilot season of "American Crime Story" wherein they featured the highly acclaimed murder trial of O.J. Simpson, the franchise is moving on for its second and third seasons respectively.

The second season of "American Crime Story" is still undeveloped and will hit televisions on 2018 but nonetheless, they are making rounds for the third season with the story of Andrew Cunanan and Gianni Versace. Now, the story is moving on with an Oscar winner star to be casted as Donatella Versace.

According to Screen Crush, Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz is moving up her acting roles to the dramatization of Gianni Versace's death. Cruz was casted as the sister of the fashion icon. The blonde-haired fashion designer is known to have managed the Versace name after the death of her brother due to Andrew Cunanan's killing spree.

There are rumors that Lady Gaga was originally given importance to take the role in "American Crime Story: Season 3" for her close ties with the family but Ryan Murphy dished out these news.

Further, Movie Fone also indicated that Murphy's reasons include that Lady Gaga's tour is set next year and other commitments. Nonetheless, Penelope Cruz's involvement is sure anticipated given her acting skills and the show's abundance of awards in the Emmys.

With her are Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan. The "American Crime Story: Season 3" will be based on Maureen Orth's Vulgar Favors.

"American Crime Story: Season 3" will be named "Versace" and is set to hit theaters in late 2018. It was revealed that it would be 6 months after the "Katrina" which is the second season of "American Crime Story."

The first season, known as "The People v. O.J. Simpson" garnered many awards during the Emmys and other related awarding bodies for the spectacular direction and acting.
