Celine Dion is not dead. A hoax spread around the Internet on Sunday claiming that the Canadian singer had died in a plane crash/car accident.

According to the Epoch Times, "The fake Fox News and CNN Facebook posts saying 'R.I.P. Celine Dion 1968 - 2013' and 'Her heart will go on? Celine Dion died in a car accident' are rogue apps."

One of the fake posts states, "Hollywood Breaking News - R.I.P Celine Dion At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (October 20, 2013), Celine Dion died in a plane crash. The culprit for the story is Global Associated, aka Media Fetcher. 'Celine Dion presumed dead in private plane crash', Global claims that Celine died today at 'Denver Peak-Regional Airport."

Fake celebrity deaths are not a new Internet phenomenon. Last summer, Media Fetcher spread an article claiming that New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning was found dead in a New York highway rest area. The website is infamous for reporting the fake deaths of celebrities such as Adam Sandler, Jeff Goldblum, Owen Wilson, Keanu Reeves, Will Smith and Eddie Murphy.

Another website, Fake a Wish, also posts prank stories.

Dion recently released a new song "Incredible" with Ne-Yo. She is best known for the Academy Award-winning song "My Heart Will Go On," which was featured in the Oscar-winning film "Titanic." The 45-year-old singer has released 14 French-language albums in addition to another 11 English-language albums. She recently released the album "Loved Back to Life" in 2013; she released the French album "Sans attendre" in 2012.
