The first of LG's "G" premium line finally debuted earlier today in New York. With its unique design of the LG G2, the South Korean giant has revolutionized and taken smartphones to a whole new level.

True to the rumors, the LG G2 comes without front and side buttons -- all buttons are located on the back of the handset. The design is a first in the smartphone industry and is said to address user difficulties in accessing side keys and buttons in larger phones.

Jong Seok Park, the President and CEO of LG Electronics, said during G2's launch in New York:

"Our definition of innovation today is technology that truly resonates with consumers. We have always listened to and learned from consumers in pursuit of innovation. We took these insights to new heights in developing LG G2, the most exciting and ambitious mobile phone in our company's history."

With the main buttons located in the back, ease of access through the user's index finger naturally positioned in the area will make control a lot easier. The company also said that the "rear key" concept will result to fewer cases of phones being dropped while trying to adjust the volume during a call. The power button and controls for volume are positioned on the rear side of the handset below the 13-megapixel camera lens. 

Aside from the rear camera, the G2 also has a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. PCMag also notes that a long press on the rear-mounted volume key launches QuickMemo -- a note-taking application -- as well as the camera.

The LG G2 comes in with a slim 138.5-by-70.9-by-8.9mm figure, runs a 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. The G2 is available in black and white with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. Other features of the handset include Graphic RAM Technology which increases battery life, Optical Image Stabilize technology for sharper images, and 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback that allows for "studio-like quality sound."
