Wiz Khalifa Says Rihanna Inspired Autotune and Trap Heavy '28 Grams' Mixtape: 'Disturbia' Singer Responds [Watch]
Wiz Khalifa has revealed fellow marijuana aficionado Rihanna as his musical muse for recently released mixtape "28 Grams."
The Pittsburgh emcee previously discussed his plan to drop a mixtape before his long awaited fifth studio album "Blacc Hollywood," saying that it will be released online faster than anyone might think.
"It's gonna drop fast. You should go home," he said, referring to the speed at which his new project was going to drop. "It's more than a teaser, it's gonna get Khalifa train rolling."
Khalifa then finally released the DJ Drama-hosted mixtape featuring 28 hot new tracks over Memorial Day weekend. He took to his Twitter account on Thursday, May 29 to provide a link to the "making of" video, claiming to fans and followers that his latest musical offerings were actually inspired by Rihanna.
"Rhianna [sic] inspired this mixtape," the rapper wrote.
"28 Grams" is heavily influenced by Southern hip-hop, especially that of Atlanta, Georgia. Wiz Khalifa has enlisted a bunch of acclaimed trap producers for the mixtape, including Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Sonny Digital and members of 808 Mafia, to help him build his new persona "Trap Wiz."
The "Black and Yellow" hitmaker clarifies in the recent footage that the Barbadian singer along with "everybody" around him encouraged him to pursue his trap side.
"I'm gonna be using auto-tune beats and sh*t like that, like real trapped-out sh*t," he said. "I just came up with this character called 'Trap Wiz,' who's like really really rude as f*ck."
He added: "I was just thinking I was gonna write these songs and give them to people as I did them, but I was playing them for people and they was like, 'Yo, you need to put this on an album!' I'm like, 'Nah, I can't do no album like this,' but like everybody from my n*ggas to f*ckin' Rihanna is like, 'Yo, this the sh*t that we wanna hear.'"
It seemed like the "Diamonds" singer did not even care about Wiz Khalifa misspelling her name, as she responded by retweeting his update soon after, adding her own words of encouragement.
“@wizkhalifa: Rihanna inspired this mixtape. https://t.co/jfm8zJQZJV https://t.co/pF2rTXIHjK” HE GETS IT!!! Too real, 1 love broski!!
