This is really one of the decades wherein remake of classic films are a hype genre. With a number of films being remade, "Escape from New York" won't go unnoticed. The film is known to have been starred by Kurt Russell. The film made a good impression to the viewers and Fox thinks that the remake would also do since the film was set in the post-apocalyptic time.

According to Rolling Stone, John Carpenter's 1981 "Escape from New York" is going to be seen again in the big screens with Robert Rodriguez being eyed as the helmer. Carpenter, who was the director of the classic, is set to play as executive producer of the film.

Carpenter also made some hints that he might be interested to compose the score for the movie. Moreover, the Century Fox is eyeing to make the "Escape from New York" to have a franchise series. Snake Plissken was played by Kurt Russell and the film had a sequel, "Escape from LA" which went on 15 years later. In connection, Gerard Butler or Josh Brolin is being eyed to take the role from Russell in the upcoming film remake.

Meanwhile, Variety reported that the original "Escape from New York" had a plot of dystopian environment during 1997 wherein the whole Manhattan was transformed into a maximum security prison. The plot centered on Plissken as he tries to rescue the POTUS from the hijacked Air Force One that crashed in the city.

Lastly, Robert Rodriguez is known to have directed the films "Sin City" and "Spy Kids," making him a significant director in Hollywood and in the upcoming remake of "Escape from New York." The studio 20th Century Fox already scheduled the expected release of the upcoming film on July 20, 2018 with them starting the production this summer.
