Mario Lopez and Wife Courtney Talk NUVOtv's 'Love & Salsa,' First Meeting and Having Another Child
NUVOtv's new dancing-based reality dating show "Love & Salsa" unites Mario Lopez and wife Courtney Lopez in the office. That combined with the program's sexy theme make for a chemistry-filled show.
Mario, the show's executive producer, has some reality television dancing experience as a former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant (him and partner Karina Smirnoff took second place in season three) and former host of MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew." Meanwhile, Courtney, "Love & Salsa" host, is a professional dancer. The dancing lovebirds met in the Broadway revival of "A Chorus Line" in 2008.
"For the roll Mario played in the show, he sat at the back of the house, stage left," Courtney told Fox News Latino. "We hit it off in the wings, but it took a while for us to connect. It was our passion on the dance floor."
"Love & Salsa" is based off this dance floor chemistry.
"I figured it would be fun if we combined a bachelor and bachelorette with choreographers," Mario said. "There's a sense of vulnerability when the two meet, then the chemistry or lack thereof, and the audience votes. It's been a lot of fun. It's sexy."
According to the executive producer, dancing has always been a "true chemistry" detector for him. Contestants don't need any professional dancing skills to be on the show, however.
"Think of it like 'Silver Linings Playbook,' Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper," Mario said. "All you need is a love for dance. It could be someone who spends their nights at a salsa club, or just dances for fun. It's all about the chemistry."
Mario and Courtney haven't been co-workers since they had their second child, according to Fox News Latino. They are interested in having another.
"I think we'll have to make it an even three," Mario said.
"Love & Salsa" airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. on NUVOtv.
