‘Digimon World: Next Order’ Review: PS 4 Game Takes Players Back To Original Series Where Training Is Very Important
"Digimon World: Next Order" on PS4 is a role-playing game based on the "Digimon" series and is the second title released in the west after "Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth." But instead of taking players to a quest of finding digital monsters, this new PS4 title will concentrate on taming and training Digimon before battling bosses found in different levels.
Released on January 31, 2017 "Digimon World: Next Order" the game offers a cartoonish appearance compared to other Digimon titles and yet does not look out of place in the PS4 platform. The sound effects of the game are quite similar to "Cyber Sleuth" and thus users that have played the first game before will find themselves on familiar grounds.
Destructoid mentioned that "Digimon World: Next Order" is more about raising and training digital monsters than taking Digimon to battle and thus players will spend a lot of time connecting with their partners instead of fighting in a battleground. Players will initially have two partners Digimon but the type of creature usually depends on the training that the Digimon gets.
"Digimon World: Next Order" offers 217 possible partners, however, not all of these may be seen in one play. Players will get to choose 2 from 10 eggs during the start of the game and from this comes their first pair of young digital monsters. Depending on the training, Digimon will be able to "Digivolve" through six stages. Players will need to devote time and effort to training a Digimon to help it evolve to its next stages; if these are not met, it would collapse and possibly die.
But players don't have to worry. When a Digimon dies, it is reborn into an egg and then hatches into a young monster. Usually, "Digimon World: Next Order" players take time updating their Digivolution trees; there are some who train their Digimon to the point of spending long hours on the Digivolution process. GameSpot also reviewed the PS4 game and mentioned that it was tedious but worth it. There was always something to do other than battle or collect Digimon.
Lastly, battles in "Digimon World: Next Order" require less input from players. Digivolution and battles become more and more challenging and interesting as players move from one story arc to another. "Digimon World: Next Order" was developed by B.B. Studios under Banda Namco Entertainment. It is available for $59.99 on the PS4 console.
