Barry Manilow Opened Up First Time in Decades, Talk About His Sexuality & His Love Story With Garry Kief
Fans of the pop icon Barry Manilow wondered why the legend still didn't come out for decades, and for the first in forever. Manilow opens up about coming out into the world again and shared that the reason why he took so long to admit he is gay is because he was afraid to disappoint his fans.
Barry Manilow managed to keep his mouth mum about his sexuality over the past decades amidst his successful career wherein he gave the world timeless hits. Manilow lived in his own world for years and now, the 73-year-old pop legend, talk about for the first about his sexuality.
Manilow conducted an exclusive interview with People and a photo shoot with his husband slash manager, Garry Kief. After being together of 40-years and even the wedding Manilow and Kief has, the pop icon didn't even come out as gay not until now. "I am so private. I always have been," he opened up.
According to Barry Manilow, he was not yet struggling with his sexuality when he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Deixler. "I wasn't ready to settle down," he stated, he wasn't ready for the marriage as he was too young. Manilow's life took a backseat as he pursued his career in music.
It was 1974 when his career skyrocketing to fame, following the success of the release of "Mandy," "Looks Like We Made It," "Can't Smile Without You." Then the year 1978 came and met Garry Kief and he automatically said to himself this is it. Kief became Manilow's manager which he acclaimed to be the smartest person he has ever met and is a great guy too.
The relationship of the two wasn't that easy as they have faced a lot of challenges and think they can't make it. Manilow and Kief stayed strong together for 39 years now while the pop icon doesn't say anything and managed to keep his mum about his sexuality. The two got married back in 2014, April in their 53-acre Palm Springs, LA Times has reported.
The wedding of Manilow and Kief made headlines, Manilow's thought of disappointing his fans if he will turn out as gay has proven wrong. Everyone was very happy finding out the two got married and people wishes them good. Manilow called the wedding a blessing and a curse.
