Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Specs Rumors: Android 4.3, Bluetooth Smart, Eye Pause
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the latest in the Note series, which revolutionized in the way we view whats constitute a phone. With a size closer to a tablet, the Note quickly ushered in the new era of "phablets," and now, the third generation reincarnation is poised to build on that success.
Executives at Samsung sent out invitations for their Unpacked event which will be held just before the IFA electronics conference in Berlin in early September. It is believed that the Note 3 will be unveiled at that time, and rumors are already circulating as to what some of the announcements for Samsung's premier smart phone will be.
"The Samsung Galaxy Note III is also rumored to come with Samsung's new eye tracking technology, Eye Pause, which will pause a video you are watching when you move your eyes away from the display and Eye Scroll, which will scroll up and down web pages using your eyes," reports Geeky Gadgets.
That's a feature that was already included on the Galaxy S4 this year, so it seems to be a safe bet that anything that Samsung can do, it will do with the Note 3. They are also believed to be including flexible glass for the Note 3, though only as protection against screen cracking (can't roll your phone up into a ball just yet).
The Note 3 will largely be competing against the next incarnation of the iPhone, which is expected to drop sometime this fall. Folks at Apple are busy testing out iOS 7, which is still in its beta form, and you had better believe that Samsung will be looking to pack a powerful punch with its own technology.
"Samsung Galaxy Note III will ship with Android 4.3 out of the box. Samsung has just started testing Android 4.3 internally. #Confirmed," tweeted SamMobile on Friday.
Android 4.3 brings with it several convenient upgrades from previous operating systems. Perhaps chief among those improvements is the ability to restrict access to certain parts of the phone's functionality based on who is using the device. The Bluetooth Smart feature will also be available, allowing the device to conduct more Bluetooth activity while limiting the amount of power used.
So far it's all been speculation in terms of both price and release date for the Note 3, and it does not appear that anything will be definitively known until the Unpacked event on Sept. 4th. Early rumors have the release coming as early as late September with a price tag of at least $300 with the purchase of a two-year contract.
"We don't expect there to be any surprises in regards to the Galaxy Note 3. Expect many of the features we've heard to be on board the device when it arrives. Expect there to be new S Pen related software. Expect it to arrive for many carriers," writes Adam Mills for gottabemobile.com.
