Former Vice President Joe Biden wins the favor of the Hispanic voters for the 2020 elections. This is the official result of the recent survey conducted by the Telemundo poll among 1,000 registered Hispanic voters. The results of the survey was released on Tuesday.
According to The Washington Times, the survey was conducted from October 24 to 28. The former vice president topped the poll after receiving 26 percent from the Hispanic voters, followed by Senator Bernard Sanders from Vermont with 18 percent, while Senator Elizabeth Warren got 10 percent. The survey has a margin of error of no more than +- 3.2 percent.
Aside from Biden, Sanders, and Warren, there were also other Democrat candidates who won the favor of the Hispanic voters who are eager to replace Trump from the presidential seat. Senator Kamala Harris got 3 percent in the poll, while candidates Julian Castro, Beto O'Rourke, and Pete Buttigieg got 2 percent.
Meanwhile, the associate director of the Center for Mexican American Studies at the University of Houston said that the rise of Joe Biden can be attributed to many factors. His popularity among the Democrats and his association with former President Barrack Obama definitely helped Biden's cause. Joe Biden also served the United states for more than two decades.
According to an analysis from the Pew Research, the Hispanic voters will be the largest minority voters in the 2020 elections. An estimated 32 million Hispanic registered voters are eligible to vote in 2020 elections. Next to them are the black voters which is composed of 30 million.
The Democratic Presidential candidates have been courting the Hispanic voters by answering questions in televised debates through the use of Spanish and even collaborating with Latino leaders for forums. The Hispanic voters could play a pivotal role in the 2020 elections such as in Nevada, where 19 percent of the voters are Latinos, followed by New Mexico with 43 percent and Texas with 30 percent. However, only 3.4 percent of Latinos are eligible to vote in Iowa.
In contrast, Vice President Mike Pence launched Latinos for Trump Coalition in June to court the Hispanic voters in Miami. According to the survey conducted by the Telemundo, 64 percent of the 1,000 respondents said that they would like to replace President Donald Trump compared to 25 percent who wants him to be re-elected. In 2016 elections, only 28 percent of the Latino voters helped President Trump to be elected as President. This means that the number of percentage if election happens today compared in the 2016 elections is only the same.
The survey poll also released the top issues of Democratic Hispanic voters. These issues are health care that garnered 29 percent, economy and jobs with 24 percent, immigration with 14 percent and environment or climate change with 10 percent.
Moreover, the Hispanic voters are split when it comes to party lines for their support to President Trump. A total of 86 percent of the Latino Democrats wanted President Trump be replaced in 2020 elections compared to 76 percent Latino Republicans who wanted him re-elected as President. Meanwhile, when it comes to performance, 87 percent of the Democratic Latino disapprove his performance in the government while 89 percent Latino Republicans approve his performance.
However, according to Mark Hugo of Pew Research Center, the survey is not constant. The results are expected to change based on the current tredns, policies, and events in time. He added that 70 percent of the Latinos said that President Trump's rhetoric has encourage racism and anti-immigrant sentiment, while only 35 percent are very worried of the hate crime such as the shooting El Paso Texas, 25 percent are somewhat worried while 27 percent are not worried at all.
