Miami Art Week Exhibits Latino Artists, Culture and Style
The last month of the year is exiting for the locals of South Florida with the launching of Miami Art Week 2019 on December 5. It is also high time for collectors and curators of the art world, including Latino artists, to gather in the name of art with events like Art Basel Miami 2019 and other shows scattered throughout the city, according to an article by Remezcla. To give you an idea and help you decide which ones to explore, here are some deets on exhibits and events featuring Latino and Latin American artists this Miami Art Week:
Art Basel
Your Miami Art Week won't be complete without visiting Art Basel. The sought-after art show features renowned artists and more than 260 galleries from all over the world, including the Barro Arte Contemporáneo from Buenos Aires, Argentina and Galería Agustina Ferreyra from Mexico City.
Art Basel 2019 will run until December 8 at Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida. For those interested, the entrance fee costs $65 for adults and $45 for students with ID.
Faena Festival: The Last Supper
Open to public until December 8, the entry is free at Faena Festival: The Last Supper at Faena Hotel and Faena Beach.
If last year, artist George Sanchéz-Calderón set a house on fire on the beach, this year, the fetival promised to be just as powerful and culturally relevant. For its second year, the festival is anchored in the theme, "transformative bridge across the Americas, between the south and the north, the popular and experimental." Some of the highlights of the festival are Argentine artist Gabriel Chaile's bread-baking ceremony during the opening at the Faena Hotel, and wCuban-American artist Ana Mendieta's two seminal film pieces, Creek and Alma Silueta en Fuego, which are presented on an LED-board floating up and down Miami Beach.
OASIS @ SCOPE Miami Beach
For $40, get a whole-day access to OASIS, a new program in SCOPE Miami Beach's pavilion featuring large-scale installations, music performances and panel discussions. With the premise of wellness through morning healing programming, guided meditations and spa treatments, the program's inaugural will feature Cuban-American artist Alex Yanes' latest project, Sound Garden, in collaboration with Mortal Machine. You can also visit more than 130 galleries featured in the venue. OASIS will run until December 8.
Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)
Open to public viewing until February 9, 2020, Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) at 1103 Biscayne Blvd. will feature the American Echo Chamber, a commissioned installation by Peruvian artist José Carlos Martinat whose sculptures were inspired by both U.S. and Peruvian symbols responding to the current political landscape. The said installation will be closing on January 26, 2020.
Tickets are sold at $16 for adults and $12 for students with ID. Also featured in the exhibit are newest exhibitions by Teresita Fernández called "Elemental" that captures the 20 years of the artist's career to date.
PULSE Art Fair
The 15th year of PULSE Art Fair at Indian Beach Park, 4601 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, showcases galleries from all over the world, including the works of some of today's leading contemporary Latin American and Latinx female artists, like Puerto Rican Alessandra Torres, Mexican Tatiana Parcero and Peruvian Maria Fe Florez Estrada.
For $35, guests can relax in their wellness lounge with signature cocktails by Malibu Farm Miami.
When travelling to Miami, the art fair also features the dual language daily programming Pulse Perspectivos which will start on December 7, 2pm. It will feature a Spanish-language panel composed of Cuban artist Sandra Ramos, client relations director Tessie Penin and art critic and curator Lenny Campello who will discuss working in the art world and navigating the various labels and their meanings within this space.
