President Trump Compares Elon Musk to Thomas Edison
President Donald Trump commended Tesla CEO Elon Musk during the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland. The POTUS was quoted as saying "We have to protect our genius," according to an article published in CNBC News.
Elon Musk is the second richest immigrant living in the United States and his net worth is $22.3 billion. His contribution to space travel and electric cars is truly astounding, hence it is not surprising anymore why Musk has a big value not only to the president of the United States, but also to the economy.
President Donald Trump said expressed during the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland that Elon Musk is one of the world's greatest geniuses. He even compared the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX to Thomas Edison to give a logical comparison as to how genius Musk is.
During the interview of Trump with Joe-Kernen, co-host of Squawk Box, he said, "Musk is one of our great geniuses, and we have to protect our genius."
Furthermore, the president added, "You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that came up with originally the light bulb and the wheel and all of these things. And he's one of our very smart people and we want to cherish those people."
Meanwhile, in an interview with Elon Musk in 2008, he said that Edison and Tesla are the names he used to name his electric auto company. Both were role models but Musk preferred Edison.
The comment of the president about Elon Musk came after the shares of Tesla skyrocketed recently, doubling it since September last year. This hits an all-time high after all-time high. The stock market value of Tesla was set to reach $100 billion. This made their market capitalization greater if compared to the combined market value of General Motors and Ford.
In its third-quarter earnings reports in October, Tesla stock has been on a tear after the well-known car maker surprisingly announced its profits. Since then, the stock was just more than $250 per share.
However, the journey of Musk's in the business industry wasn't easy at all. His now-infamous 'funding secured' on Aug. 7 sent the stock spiking but it also marked the chaotic ride of the company and Elon Musk. In the next 16 months that followed, Tesla stock recorded a bottom low just under $177 per share in June before boomeranging back up.
President Trump recalled those rough times of Elon musk and said: "You go back a year and they were talking about the end of the company. And now all of a sudden they're talking about these great things."
The president also shared astonishingly about what Musk's commercial company SpaceX has accomplished most especially with rockets that land themselves during his interview with CNBC on Wednesday. President Trump said: "I spoke to him very recently, and he's also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And he does good at rockets, too, by the way. I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they're landing. I said I've never seen that before."
