The Red Carpet Green Dress Initiative Hits The Oscars
At every Oscars event, celebrities never fail to showcase glamour and fashion. However, at this year's Oscars, celebrities were making a positive impact on the environment.
The well-awaited awards night and its attendees had made it appear as if they had a pact to make sustainability the theme of the event.
Many of the Hollywood stars who attended the event had re-used or recycled their previous red carpet outfits. Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry had worn gowns and suits that they had worn before. This is the stars' efforts to become more eco-friendly. They turned the red carpet event into a green one.
The Oscars Attendees and Their Outfits
One of the stars at the Oscars was Saoirse Ronan who wore a black dress with lavender accents from Gucci. The Irish actress received a 'Best Actress' nomination for her meaningful role in the film, 'Little Women.' She shared that the black part of her dress was made from recycled material. The material originated from the BAFTAs outfit she wore last week. She was finished with a tight hairdo and a bee hairclip from Gucci.
Also, Elizabeth Banks made an eco-friendly gesture for the Oscars by going through her closet for a red dress she wore back in 2004. The star from Pitch Perfect reused her Badgley Mischa outfit that she previously wore for the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. For her revived outfit, the jewelry that originally studded her dress was removed.
Additionally, Arianna Huffington also performed the same eco-friendly gesture. For the Vanity Fair Oscars 2020 Party, she reused a Valentino dress that she had worn back in 2013.
Jane Fonda expressed her commitment to promoting eco-friendly habits by reusing a gown that she first wore during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. She ascended the stage with a red coat over her dress. The dress symbolizes her dedication to sustainability. She explained that the red coat that she wore was in fact on sale. She shared that people don't need to continue shopping for new clothes. She stressed that people should not use clothing as a way to express one's identity. As a way to live up to her advocacy, she shared that she will no longer shop for new clothes.
Kaitlyn Dever and Léa Seydoux, ambassadors of the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative, preferred custom-made gowns designed by Louis Vuitton. Dever wore a red gown made from eco-friendly silk satin material decorated with Swarovski beads and crystals. She also wore $47 red platform footwear by Aldo. Aldo is an advocate for climate-neutral products.
Dever believes in the importance of sustainable clothing. She encourages other people outside the entertainment industry to follow her lead.
An article from Glamour stated that the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative aims to encourage people in the entertainment industry to choose sustainable clothing brands and designs.
Léa Seydoux wore a black and white outfit made from organic silk faille and Tencel Luxe. Tencel Luxe is an eco-friendly fabric that is expected to be seen more in future red carpet events. Her footwear was also made from organic satin.
