Remembering the Iconic Legacy of Veteran Actress Lynn Cohen
The entertainment industry mourned once again following the death of Lynn Cohen of the HBO hit series 'Sex and the City.' The news outlet The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Cohen died Friday morning at the tender age of 86.
If you are an avid fan of 'Sex and the City,' Cohen's face will be all too familiar for her role in the HBO hit series. Cohen is best remembered in the series as nanny Magda. She worked as a nanny of Miranda Hobbe's children, who played back then by Cynthia Nixon, because of her busy life as a lawyer in a big city.
However, this is not how Cohen started her career in the entertainment industry. Her path to success in the industry was full of joy and triumph.
Stepping stones to success
Cohen started her career in the 1970s as a regional theatre actress performing on different stages in New York. This served as her leverage in the entertainment industry. In 1983, she had her first on-screen debut in the 1983 film "Without a Trace" alongside Judd Hirsch. Since then, she appeared in several films and shows.
Cohen's broadway appearances were the most significant part of her career because this is where she was discovered and where she molded her skill in acting. She studied acting at New York's Michael Howard's Studios. After this, she made her broadway productions in Tennessee Williams in "Orpheus Descending" and "Ivanov" by Anton Checkhov before landing projects on the big screen.
Soon enough, Cohen also appeared in the "NYPD Blue," Law & Order" and its spinoffs "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," "Days of Our Lives," "Nurse Jackie" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel." These are just some of Cohen's big projecs.
Nanny Magda, a key character in Sex and the City
Her contributions are widely known by anyone else in the entertainment industry. She is one of the most respected actresses in Hollywood. She became even more popular because of her appearance in the "Sex and the City" that spanned for 13 episodes from 2000 to 2004 and she did again the same role in the same name in 2008 and its sequel in 2010.
Cohen said in IMDB when she was still alive, said: "First of all, Sex and the City was so interesting to me because there were very sexy things in it. Ninety-year-old women would come up to me and say, 'You know, I never mention the word 'sex' in my house, ever. But now, when Sex And The City is on, you can call me on the telephone and I won't answer.'"
Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw on the show and one of the actresses in the industry who she worked with, mourned the death of the veteran actress by posting online. She wrote in her Instagram account on Saturday with the photo of Cohen, "Beautiful Lynn Cohen. Miranda's dear and necessary Magda. Our dear SATC colleague. Talent, grace, inspiration.
Because of Cohen's iconic legacy, it's no surprise why the younger generation of actresses idolize her. Even though she's already old, Cohen's love for acting never wavered. Up until the dusk of her life, Cohen still participated in a lot of movies.
It is remembered that she appeared in the second installment of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." Her role in the iconic movie was an elderly woman named Mags who made a heartbreaking sacrifice.
In addition to her success, contributions, and achievements in the industry, Cohen was supposed to have her final projects that were not released yet. The movie, which revolves around a family's dark secrets, is now on its post-production.
