Students of Mexico High School's Drama Department are gearing up for a three-night run of the hit musical "Mamma Mia.

Rehearsals are underway as Mexico High School Drama Department is set to perform the classic musical "Mamma Mia" which features music on pop supergroup ABBA such as Honey, Honey, Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, and Lay All Your Love on Me. 

The musical show will start at 7 pm on March 6 and 7, 2020 in the high school's Avery Skinner Auditorium. 

Tickets are sold for $5 presale or $10 at the door. Discounted tickets are available on the two nights. Senior Citizens can also purchase tickets for $3 on Thursday, March 5. The military also receives a discount for the show on Friday, March 6.

"Mamma Mia!" is a highly-acclaimed musical that showcases the story of Donna Sheridan (played by Jennifer Babcock), an independent hotelier in the Greek Islands, who is preparing for her daughter's wedding with the help of two old friends. 

The spirited bride, Sophie (Played by Kiara Richer), hatches up a plan and invites three men from her mother's past in hopes of meeting her real father and having him walk her down the aisle for her wedding ceremony. Their arrival causes great distress to Sophie's mother Donna. As they all prepare for Sophie's big day, emotions run high and surprises abound.

The cast list for Mexico's musical includes Kiara Richer (who plays Sophie Sheridan), Mia Morris (as Tanya), Anna Pluff (as Rosie), Jennifer Babcock (as Donna Sheridan), Colin O' Neil (as Sky), Myles McMahon (as Sam Carmichael), Devon Thayer (as Bill Austin), Carter Richardson (as Harry Bright), Katie Spaulding (as Lisa), Abbey Dingman (as Ali), Avery Oakes (as Pepper), Devon Walker (as Eddie), and Trevor Good (as Priest).

The ensemble for "Mamma Mia!" includes Emma Hyde, Aryel Sharp, Yusra Alih, Samanta Seeburger, Maddie Loomis, Kelly Mason, Emma Murabito, Lauren Salisbury, Cali Hopp, Sabria Summer, Alisha McKechnie, Harmony Schroeder, Alana Rice, Olivia Linerode, Brian Mohr, Alli Kerr, Libby Sheldon, Megan Sidoti, Megan Coe, Juliana Smith, and Grace Mason.

Jordan Novak, Kierstyn Denny, Meghan Denny, Jozlyn Fiorito, Julia Ahart, Shea Cappelletti, Jared Ricker, and McKenna House will be working backstage.

Teacher assistant Cassie Story and music teacher Laura Washburn will be co-directing the show. 

Avery Skinner Auditorium is located at 3338 Main Street, Mexico inside Mexico High School. 

"Mamma Mia!" was written by British playwright Catherine Johnson who took inspiration from songs by popular hits of 70s Swedish pop/dance group ABBA. The show has grossed over $4 billion worldwide since its 1999 premiere at the Prince Edward Theatre. On June 9, 2004, the production transferred to the Prince of Wales Theatre. 

The original cast included Siobhan McCarthy, Lisa Stokke, and Hilton McRae.  

In July 2008, a film adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep was released. A sequel film titled "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" was released in 2018. The sequel tells the story of how Donna met the three men who are potentially Sophie's father.

"Mamma Mia!" is the seventh longest-running show in West End history and various international productions. It closed its Broadway incarnation after a 14-year run in September 2015, making it the ninth longest-running show in Broadway history.
