Alec Baldwin Given Keys to City in Rhode Island: Actor Donated $10,000 to Central Falls Library
Though Alec Baldwin may have had issues with law enforcement in New York City in the past, the 56-year-old actor is being praised in Rhode Island for his generous works and contributions.
Last month, Baldwin was arrested for breaking the NYC bicycle law and disorderly conduct with NYC police officers.
Baldwin irritated the NYPD so much that the head of NYPD Hispanic Society, Dennis Gonzalez, described the actor's actions as shameful.
"Shame on Mr. Baldwin," Gonzalez said. "Does he expect special privilege because he's an actor?"
Despite Baldwin's shaky relationship with the NYPD, Baldwin is seen as exceptional in Rhode Island.
Fox News reported that Alec Baldwin is set to receive the key to Rhode Island's smallest city for his donations to help reopen the financially struggling city's library.
Following The New York Times article that he read on Rhode Island's struggling library, Baldwin reportedly donated $10,000 to Rhode Island's Adams Memorial Library in Central Falls in 2011. In 2012, Baldwin continued his generous offerings with $5,000 donation.
Because of Baldwin's generosity, the library was able to come out of bankruptcy.
The library's director, Joel Pettit told Fox News that Baldwin will accept the city's key from the mayor on the library steps.
It will be Baldwin's first visit to Adams Memorial Library.
Following Baldwin's key ceremony, the actor will headline a fundraiser at a nearby Providence library.
According to Fox News, Pettit described Baldwin as a great guy, and he's hopeful the event will bring attention to the importance of libraries.
Baldwin's donation to the once-struggling library does not come as a surprise since he has always been a strong supporter of reading and literature.
Alec Baldwin currently stands as one of the heads on the advisory boards at NYC's Symphony Space. He often performs during Symphony Space's "Selected Shorts" nights that honor the works of writers by having performers read the writers' stories on stage.
Congrats, Alec!
