Kevin Roper, the truck driver responsible for the tragic car accident involving comedian and actor Tracy Morgan, has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto, reports CNN.

Roper, 35, reportedly turned himself in on Sunday and his bail has been set at $50,000.

"This is a tragedy, and we are profoundly sorry that one of our trucks was involved," Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart U.S., said in a statement regarding the accident. "The facts are continuing to unfold. If it's determined that our truck caused the accident, Wal-Mart will take full responsibility."

Roper is a Walmart employee, and on the morning of the accident, he was driving the company's truck.

The 6-vehicle car crash occurred at approximately 1 a.m. ET on Saturday on the Mercer County turnpike.

Morgan and his friends were riding a limo bus, and on their way home following one of Morgan's stand-up performances, they were suddenly rear-ended by Roper's truck and Morgan's limo bus overturned, TMZ reported.

Morgan and another passenger were immediately airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey following the crash and remain in critical condition.

Morgan's close friend and comedian James McNair died on the scene.

"The driver of the tractor-trailer failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead," New Jersey State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams said to CNN. "At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedes limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturn."

So far, New York state police are saying that alcohol was not a factor in the chain-reaction crash, but they are still investigating the possibility.

Tracy Morgan, 45, is best known for once being a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" and his role of Tracy Jordan on "30 Rock" where he plays the exaggerated version of himself on the show. Morgan later received an Emmy nomination for his "30 Rock" role.

Following the news of the car wreck, there was an outpour of love and support from fans and celebrities who are all wishing Morgan are speedy recovery.

So far, Morgan remains in critical condition.
