Proper Handling of Face Masks is Advised as the Coronavirus Can Thrive on Face Masks for 7 Days
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, scientists have been learning how long the SARS-CoV-2 or the novel coronavirus can survive on different types of surfaces, says an article.
The novel coronavirus can be transmitted by touching infected surfaces. When a person touches his or her face after touching an infected surface, there is a high chance that that person gets infected.
Develop Knowledge about the Transmission of the Disease to Prevent its Spread
There is numerous research that is being used to guide people to help them protect themselves from contracting the deadly novel coronavirus.
Finding the Virus Outside a Face Mask After a Week
A new report shows a study on the stability of the SARS-CoV-2 and its volume overtime on different surfaces including tissues, cloth, and wood. The research was shocked to discover that the novel coronavirus was found outside a face mask after a week.
Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, face masks, especially N95 masks and surgical masks, had been in demand. This had even led to its shortage due to the increasing need for its usage.

Wear Makeshift Masks Says US Government
In recent news, the White House had advised US citizens to wear face coverings when they go to public places. The government has been suggesting to use bandanas, scarves, and t-shirts to use as makeshift face masks. With this, the supply of face masks for health care workers will not be compromised.
Best Ways to Flatten the Curve
There is still insufficient evidence that suggests face masks help prevent the spread of the infection except when they are used by those who are ill.
Scientists are still strongly suggesting the significant effects of proper social distancing and staying at home. These two methods are being seen by experts as an effective way to 'flatten the curve.'
Proper Wearing of Face Masks
Malik Peiris and Leo Poon Lit-man, two of the researchers, stated that their discovery reveals the importance of properly wearing and removing face masks.
According to Peiris, the results of their research show that it is important to not touch the outside of face masks. Touching the outer part of the face masks can contaminate one's hands. If that person touches his or her face, he has a chance of getting it in his eyes, nose, or mouth.
The CDC suggests US citizens wear a snug cloth face mask that covers the nose and mouth area. Also, the CDC recommends that the DIY face mask be washed frequently. CDC also advises the public to prevent touching the front of the face masks. Also, they suggest people to frequently wash their hands.
The research team includes the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientists. They also discovered that the SARS-CoV-2 or the novel coronavirus were more stable on smooth surfaces. The virus' life span is affected by many factors such as humidity and temperature.
