Six Endangered Oryx Caught Being Smuggled Into Mexico
On Wednesday, six Oryx were rescued after the Customs and Border Protection, also called CBP, found out that endangered animals are being transported to Mexico.
The CBP Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team found the Oryx placed inside a trailer bound to Mexico through the Anzalduas Port of Entry, says an article.
Trophies
Oryx is an endangered antelope breed. Their horns are being used to make game trophies say, officials.
This is the reason why this antelope breed is nearing extinction. Together with the CBP, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were able to rescue the Oryx.
The details about the people who tried to transport them to Mexico is not yet available.
The Incredible Antelope Breed
Oryx is a beautiful breed of antelopes that are characterized by their incredible horns. Both male and female Oryx have horns. The design of their horns gives them the nickname spear antelope. The scimitar-horned Oryx is a little different. They get their name from the shape of their horns, which are long and curved similar to scimitars, an Arabian sword. There are six types of Oryx specie. In all species, the females have longer horns compared to the males. It was not identified in the source which specie of Onyx was rescued in the incident.
The Many Names of the Oryx
It is not only its horns that make it a famous animal. In Africa, the Oryx is called 'Gemsbok.' However, in Germany, it is called 'Chamois,' referring to a goat-like antelope. By having both a common name and a scientific name makes this breed more identifiable among people from different parts of the world.
The Beautiful Oryx
Aside from its beautiful horns that had made this animal an endangered breed, it also boasts a wide range of beautiful fur colors from light brown to gray. The color of Oryx depends on its specie. Commonly, Oryx has a considerable amount of dark hair on their belly and back's stripe and their legs. They are more than horns for game trophies. They represent the beauty of nature, and they deserve to live in peace without being threatened of extinction.

The Hardy Animals
Typically, the Oryx live in many types of environments, from intense ones to less-intense surroundings. They can live in semi-deserts, deserts, scrublands, and dry grasslands.
Despite the hot temperatures of these places, the Onyx's biology make-up allows it to survive intensely hot environments.
The circulation system of the Onyx on its heads enable them to keep their blood cool as blood flow through its capillaries from the nose, as it breathes, to the brain.
Despite being incredibly adaptable in scorching environments, they are not exempted from the abuses of people who capture and kill them for their horns.
This endangered antelope breed should not only be seen for their horns. Their beauty is behind their horns, and it deserves to be appreciated.
