iPad Mini 2 Release Date, Price and Specs: New Tablet to Be Released in October?
The second generation of the iPad Mini is set to arrive in October after the launch of the iPhone 5S and iOS 7, says Stabley Times.
Almost all rumors agree on a September debut for Apple's flagship device, the iPhone, with the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 7. Trusted Reviews claims that Apple is not fond of having its flagship share the limelight with other goodies -- making the iPad Mini 2's October release highly possible.
International Business Times, on the other hand, foresees a November release as highly possible, saying the iPad 5 will be launched first "for the bigger iOS 7 tablet to gather sufficient steam before competing with its 7.9-inch sibling." All of these rumored iPad Mini 2 release dates seem to be pointing to a fourth-quarter release date of the tablet, as cited in a report by Bloomberg.
The iPad mini 2 will still sport a 7.9-inch screen, though rumors indicate it will have a higher pixel density than its predecessor's 163 pixels-per-inch. Trusted Reviews says that the iPad Mini 2 is most likely to have a 2048 x 1536 pixel screen, doubling the iPad Mini's current screen real estate. The upgrade, according to them, was "obvious and necessary" for the tablet to keep up with its counterparts.
Along with a higher screen resolution and the supposed iOS 7 integration, the iPad Mini 2 will also double its RAM to 1GB. The mini 2 will still not have a memory card slot, and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions of the tablet are likely; a 128GB is deemed less probable. Apple is reportedly toying with the idea of having the iPad Mini 2 in different colors, says Gotta Be Mobile. Although there was no mention of a specific range of colors, it is highly possible that they will match the colors of the iPod Touch line.
According to PC Pro, the iPad Mini 2's price will remain more or less the same, starting at $329 for the 16GB WiFi-only version. Although the iPad Mini's full-size counterpart underwent a major upgrade when it "went retina", the price of the iPad did not significantly increase -- making an increase in the price of the iPad Mini 2 less likely. Even with the price kept constant, Apple's mini tablet will still be more expensive compared to its counterparts.
