Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Disease Security Says COVID-19 Is Not Going Away
Dr. Tom Inglesby, Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Disease Security, said that COVID-19 is not going away until a vaccine is developed, according to a recently published article.
COVID-19 Cases in the United States and the Response of the Government
Pharmaceutical companies and scientists around the world are now in a race to develop a vaccine that will kill the new coronavirus that was believed to have been originated in Wuhan, China. At present, COVID-19 has infected more than 4.2 million and claimed the lives of nearly 300,000, according to worldometers.
The United States has the highest number of infections of more than 1.3 million and a death toll of more than 80,000. It is not a surprise as to why the federal government has placed the country in a nationwide lockdown to control the spread of the virus.
Pres. Donald Trump is very optimistic that this pandemic will end. In fact, his administration is trying its best to develop a vaccine that will kill the virus to financial assistance to its citizens, and that includes stimulus checks, relief aid to the farmers, and more.
COVID-19 Will Remain A Problem
In an interview with the Johns Hopkins Center for Disease Security Director Dr. Tom Inglesby, he said that for as long as there is no vaccine developed, the virus would continue to infect and claimed the lives of thousands if not millions of people around the globe.
Dr. Inglesby said: "Hopefully, over time, we'll learn to live with it, and we'll be able to reduce the risk of transmission, but it's going to stay as a background problem in the country and around the world until we have a vaccine."
He also explained that while the number of cases in New York has decreased, it is in irony with other states. The problem of why there is an increasing number of infected persons around the country is because of the lack of rapid diagnostic tests and tracing also the contacts of those who tested positive for the virus.
He warned that reopening the states will just increase the number of infected cases and will compromise the healthcare system of the country while places in the country with small cases of the virus will get worse.
10 Plain Truths About COVID-19, According to the Former CDC Director
It cat be remembered in a recently published report that former CDC Director Tom Frieden shared the 10 Plain Truths about the virus. Dr. Frieden said that COVID-19 cases have just begun, and the pandemic will get worse.
He also explained that the virus would last for up to two more years. The same as with Dr. Inglesby, the former CDC Director also explained the impact of reopening the states. Dr. Frieden said that 30,000 people will be infected every day across the country as the states are now starting to reopen their economy.
This means that the only way we have right now is to remain vigilant and practice the highest form of hygiene to avoid getting infected by the virus.
