In telenovelas, it's not uncommon for poor characters to be called insulting nicknames during the run of the show.

For Maite Perroni's character Esmeralda, the term "maldita gata," or "damn cat," will follow her around. Unfortunately, "La Gata" co-star Laura Zapata has taken to using the term in real life, says a source. This has upset the former "Rebelde" star.

A source working on the show said that Perroni even ended up in tears, according to TV Notas.

"They had a strong encounter a few days ago," the source said. "And it's been two months, since the shooting began, that they are super enemies. They worked together six years ago on 'Cuidado con el Angel,' and for this reason, Maite was very happy when she found out that Laura was going to be the villain in this show."

The phrase "maldita Gata" stuck because it sounded mean enough and did its job. But Zapata has started using it off screen.

In the beginning, it didn't bother Perroni. As time has gone on, it has bothered Perroni more. When there were some students visiting the set, Zapata used the term, and Perroni wouldn't even turn around to look at her. A few hours later on the same day, Zapata used the term again in front of Perroni, who was chatting with her friends.

"She got up immediately because she was sick of it and she told Laura," the source said. "Laura arrogantly replied, 'You are immature, my love, it's part of the character.' They went off to the side to continue their discussion and Maite ended up crying."

The source added that the situation remains tense.

The two only say good morning to each other, and they don't speak otherwise.
