A popular nightspot in Minneapolis Uptown neigborhood became a venue of a gun violence that left 11 people wounded and a young man dead early Sunday.

A report from Fox 9 Minneapolis-St.Paul said the random shooting happened shortly after midnight.

The senseless gun violence was said to have started at the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue South.

Then it made its way to the swanky Metro area, which is a nightlife focal point of retail stores, bars, and restaurants.

Due to the loosening of lockdown restrictions, the city was bustling with people -- a mix of regular patrons and irregulars who wanted to unwind on several businesses that have  already reopened.

A witness named Fred Hwang said the shooting began on the sidewalk and then picked its way towards the middle of the street, wherein the shooters continued firing back and forth.

"That's why there's broken glass here and over here and also right next to our building, there's a broken window," he noted.

Only One Killed

Although the 11 shooting survivors had no life-threatening injuries, the young man, who is  a father of two, died at the hospital.

He was dentified as Cody Pollard, who has worked as a barber, the CBS Minnesota reported.

Local social crusader KG Wilson has livestreamed on Facebook the aftermath of the shootout.

In the video, many people could be heard screaming as some could be seen lying on the pavement, while bystanders and the police attended to them. 

Police Seeks Help  

The responding police force suspected that there was more than one assailant involved which they describe as "individuals on foot" as mentioned by the AP News.

Police said the case is still under investigation and the perpetrators are still at large.

However, they said they already have "several leads."

Medaria Arradondo, who is the Minneapolis Police Chief, called the midnight butchery a "tragic and senseless violence" and added that both the FBI and state agencies are also lending their hand, especially with the recent surge of violence in the city. 

The local police has already dealt with two other shootings prior to the Uptown random shooting. 

In a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Uptown is located just five kilometers near the commercial areas where the George Floyd protests happened.

Even until now, there are still establishments that are boarded-up as a means of protection from the protestors.
