Perry appeared on a radio show "Q on CBC," where she admitted about her mental health issue, breakdown, and her attempt to commit suicide

The singer admitted that she considered taking her own life after her split with Bloom in 2017. Perry said she was also depressed at that time because of her failing career, CNN News reports.

"I don't know if my smile was ever fully, like, authentically mine but I was riding on the high of a smile for a long time. Which was the validation, love, and admiration from the outside world, and then that shifted," Perry said.

She also explained that she was so excited about her career, but what she expected did not happen. Two events in the same year crashed her. Her failed relationship with Bloom and her failed career. Perry recalled that she was left wallowing in her own sadness.

Lesson Perry Learned from Her Failures

Perry moved on and was so thankful that those events happened in her life. She described those experiences as "necessary brokenness," adding that gratitude saves her life.

The "American Idol" judge said it was so important for her to be "broken so that she can find her wholeness in a different way." Now, she asserted that she is living more dimensional rather than living like a thirsty pop star all the time.

What Saved Katy Perry from Depression?

Perry noted that "gratitude" saved her life from depression. She revealed that if she did not find it, she could have committed suicide because of her sadness. The singer said she realized that there are many things to be grateful for.

She also asserted that her faith has helped her to recover as she battled mental issues, anxiety, and depression for years. Now, she has a different outlook on life.

Another thing that helped her was her hope in God. Perry explained that she recognized that God controls her destiny and God has plans for her. The singer believed that she would drive into the ground if she was the only one who controls her own destiny.

Perry's Mental Health Issue

This was not the first time during interviews that Perry mentioned about her mental health issue. She also discussed it in a live-streamed session with therapist Siri Sat Nam Singh on YouTube as part of Vice's "The Therapist" series in 2017.

Perry said at that time she really felt strong as Perry, but sometimes not as strong as Katheryn Hudson - her real name.

Despite the failures that Perry encountered, she was not only able to move on, but also reconciled with Bloom. Perry was also very happy to announce that they are so excited for their first baby.
