Will You Qualify for the Next Stimulus? Here's What We Know
If the second stimulus bill would be passed into law and signed by President Donald Trump, you might be wondering if you qualify for the second round. Here's what we know.
The CARES Act that gives an unemployment aid of $600 will end this month. The earliest will be two weeks from now. However, there is no date yet as to when the Congress and Senate would discuss the next Stimulus Package and who would qualify for it. However, here's what we know.
Lawmakers have not yet decided as to who qualifies for more stimulus package. There are many talks that they would make the next stimulus money available for more people but there are discussions also that this would only be given to those who have the greatest need, according to CNBC News.
The Labor Department reported on Thursday that 4.8 million jobs were added in June since the economic reopening in the country. However, the Labor Department also said that 1.42 million filed unemployment claims for the week ending June 27.
It was on the 14th week when people filed unemployment claims. In the previous article of Latin Post, it was reported that the amount of unemployment benefit claims vary by state. The federal aid is $600 but some states give an unemployment claim of $300 or more.
Now that the COVID-19 infections have increased in 45 states, some state governors are once again shutting down businesses that they allowed to open for weeks.
So far, this is what we have heard about the next stimulus check.
Who Gets the Next Stimulus?
We have no idea yet as who would get the next stimulus but we can put the pieces together using the CARES Act and the proposed HEROES Act.
For example, the HEROES Act which was proposed in May offers broad financial benefits to individuals, families, and categories who were not included in the first stimulus. The HEROES Act include college students and those who are not American citizens.
However, the proposal was opposed by the Senate. Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell said that if there would be another stimulus it would be Republican-led but would offer more stimulus checks.
Some suggest that if there would be a second stimulus, it would be given to fewer people. However, these people are those who have the most urgent need.
There are no confirmation yet not unless a bill would be passed in the Congress and Senate. However, here are some possible scenarios. Remember to consider this one as speculative and not a matter of fact. The following could qualify in the next stimulus:
- Individuals who made less than $99,000 based on their Adjusted Gross Income from 2018 or 2019 taxes or whichever was most recently filed.
- College students, dependents over 17 years old, disabled relatives, and taxpayer's parents.
- Families composed of more than five persons.
- SSDI recipients
- People who are not U.S. citizens but are paying taxes and are complying with the federal tax law using the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number instead of SSN.
Remember these are just a few of what we know but not a matter of fact yet. However, there is a great chance that these speculations would be made possible.
