UFC just found itself a new dominant champion in Brazilian UFC Fighter Deiveson Figueiredo after claiming the UFC flyweight title with a first-round submission.

Joseph Benavidez is one of UFC's most beloved fighters, according to a Yahoo Sports article. But Figueiredo left no doubt that he deserved the flyweight title when he knocked Benavidez down three times.

Figueiredo choked his opponent out at mark 4:48 of the first round, a mere 12 seconds left for the round to finish.

He was announced the main event winner for the vacant UFC flyweight title championship in UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi.

In the opening seconds, Figueirido clipped Benavidez's right hand then tried for a rear-naked choke on the ground, according to ESPN.

Benavidez managed to get off the hold and upon his feet, but he couldn't do it a second time. He didn't tap out when he was choked out. He just went unconscious, and the referee called the fight.

In February, the two fighters had clashed for the vacant title, and Figueiredo, who won 19 of 20, won by knockout. In this fight, the two clashed heads, Figueiredo knocked out Benavidez, and a controversy ensued.

The fight was supposed to decide the vacant title, but Figueiredo missed weight by 2.5 pounds, making Benavidez the only one who could win the belt. With the TKO in the second round, the bout called for a rematch.

On Saturday, there weren't any head butts. Just Figueiredo's fists in action.

Roadblocks Towards Fight Island

The fight that gave Figueiredo's title took place at the recently built Flash Forum on Yas Island, also dubbed as "Fight Island" by the UFC for the whole month-worth slate of events. This is the third UFC card the venue witnessed in eight days, with another one coming on July 25.

The past two weeks weren't so easy on Figueiredo. He first tested positive of COVID-19 before he left Brazil and did not get on the UFC charter flight out of Sao Paulo.

Last July 11, he was tested again, and the results came back negative. He took a flight out last Sunday to Abu Dhabi.

Once on the Fight Island, he passed some more COVID-19 tests and was cleared by the UFC. He had the right weight to qualify on Friday, just hours after getting the signal to be released from quarantine.

"I was able to overcome all that," Figueiredo said. "I was able to come in here, and I'm the champion now; it's going to be a very hard time for anyone that comes after me."

Scoring $50,000 More

MMA Fighting Newswire reported that Figueiredo is also $50,000 richer after winning the rematch.

He led the list of bonus-winners at the UFC Fight Island 2 after taking home the "Performance of the Night" nod due to Benavidez's first-round submission.

Other bonus winners were Rafael Fiziev and Marc Diakiese for the 'Fight of the Night' and Ariane Lipski for another 'Performance of the Night' bonus.
