MTV Hottest Through the Years: BTS Won Last Year Would They Win Again this Year?
It's the hottest time in music again as MTV Hottest Summer Superstar rolls in with a new set of nominees, including Korean boy group BTS.
Last year's winner, BTS, might just win MTV Hottest again this year as fans take their fans to the next level online. On its eighth year, the competition is still letting fans decide who will win among the 50 artists battling for the title.
The MTV Hottest win had only been awarded to five artists so far, with One Direction winning three times in a row in years 2013 to 2015. That means, if BTS wins this year, they will be the first ones to win consecutive years for the last five years.
Last year's MTV Hottest gave BTS 19 million votes in total, thanks for the help of their BTS Army. Lady Gaga followed that year with 12.7 million votes and BLACKPINK came in third with 3.8 million.
To vote for this year, fans just have to tweet #MTVHottest followed by the name of their bet. The list of nominees can be seen on MTV's site.
There won't be a leaderboard for this year but MTV Music UK said they will post regular updates on their Twitter account. Oicanadian said BTS, Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK are leading in this year's competition so far.
BTS and Blackpink are the only candidates for Kpop, said All KPOP Drama.
Here are the other artists who won the award in the past other than BTS.
One Direction
When One Direction first won the MTV Hottest crown, it was actually a very good year for them. They got to star in their own movie and they won an MTV VMA in the weekend prior to their Summer Superstar win.
They won by 64 million votes, battling Justin Bieber for weeks.
Best Song Ever was hailed the MTV VMA's Best Song Of The Summer with the help of their ever-adoring fans. The win happened again for 2014 and 2015, making them the record-holder for most years won as MTV's Hottest Summer Superstar.
Fifth Harmony
Fifth Harmony, beat the likes of Beyoncé and Coldplay for the 2016 MTV Hottest. It wasn't without the help of the Harmonizers all over the world, though.
Even though Beyoncé was winning during the early parts of the competition, 5H stole the top spot with over 67 million votes. That would make them win by five million votes.
The total number of votes was a surprising 144 million.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has a lot to be proud of her Little Monsters when they voted her into winning MTV Hottest for 2017. It was an overwhelming win with a 40 million difference.
It was even higher than Bieber's by 50 million more.
That year, MTV Hottest had a total of 194 million votes.
Selena Gomez
Selenators blew away the MTV Hottest Summer Superstar battle when they made their queen, Selena Gomez, win for 2018.
Gomez was in close competition with the likes of Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande and more to take the top spot.
That year, the top 10 artists list was dominated by females, save for 5 Seconds of Summer.
