Louisiana Bank Standoff Leaves Two Dead: Gunman and One Hostage
A 20-year-old gunman who held three people hostage at a Louisiana bank on Tuesday was killed by police after he shot two of the hostages.
According to the Associated Press, one hostage later died; the remaining two are in critical condition. The suspect was identified as Fuaed Abdo Ahmed.
The standoff, located at Tensas State Bank in a town called St. Joseph, lasted for hours. According to the Associated Press, the unidentified gunman entered the bank with an automatic weapon and held the three hostages, who were bank employees.
Law enforcement officers and state bomb squad members were dispatched to the scene.
WBRZ Reporter Ryan Naquin sent out a tweet yesterdy that read, "LA State Police: FBI negotiator talking to man who has 3 hostages at gunpoint & handcuffed inside the Tensa State Bank in St. Joseph."
Some hours later, he sent another tweet with an update on the situation. "LA State Police: Negotiations still ongoing with hostage-taker in St Joseph bank. No significant update since 1 hostage was released."
The town of 1,200 was shocked by the incident. "I wouldn't expect something like that to happen here,'' Mayor Edward Brown said. "It's just bizarre."
