All jobs have a different level of stress, even on good days. It could be because of a lack of motivation to work or the thought of going to work already made you tired, depressed, or sometimes even physically ill.

If this happens, it is more than stress. If there is a significant number of employees who transfer to other companies or other institutions, then something is wrong in the companies administration.

This is a pandemic in the company that was never given attention because persons in the middle and higher managerial positions are afraid to be evaluated.

According to coach and human-behavior professor Melody Wilding, a toxic working environment can be defined as any job where the work, the atmosphere, the people, or any combination can cause severe disruptions to your work.

She added that some people who experienced working in a toxic environment could suffer sleepless nights, continually feeling vigilant, sweaty palms, racing heartbeat, and more. The worst, a toxic working environment, could have a negative health impact.

Wilding noted that "a toxic or hostile workplace has negative health impacts that can affect your personal life by damaging everything from your self-esteem to your friendships."

Here are some signs that you are working in a toxic environment:

1. Employee Sickness

  • Toxic workplaces can lead employees to suffer burnout, fatigue, and fatigue due to a high level of stress. If people in your working place get sick or over-fatigue, then you are in a toxic environment.

2. Narcissistic Leadership

  • This means that your higher-ups demand that you always agree with them. You are left with no choice but to say "yes" or be the center of their discussion. Just tell them that they are right, and they are above the rules even though they meet the lower standards. They just need attention they never had before.

3. Little to no Enthusiasm

  • Look around your working environment and answer the following questions:
  1. Are they all happy working in your working environment?
  2. Are they all smiling?
  3. Are the conversations positive and upbeat?

If the answer is "No," then you are in a toxic working environment.

4. Lack of Communication or Negative Communication

  • You and other persons don't get the necessary information about your job. Most of the time, this resulted in miscommunication and your higher-ups humiliate you in front of many people. Remember that you are all professionals, and things like this should be done in a civil and professional way. Right?

5. High Turnover

  • If you observed that the place you are working with has a high turnover, then that means that the working environment is very toxic. No positive feedbacks or just even a small recognition for small efforts, but what is only seen are the mistakes. Moreover, this situation has nothing good to offer except dysfunction, poor morale, and sickness.

6. Cliques, Gossip, and Rumors

  • There are people in your working place who does not have business at all but to gossip. They loved to talk about other people's lives, which are not part of their job description. Always remember to choose your friends in your working environment. Not all can be trusted.

There are instances as well where a person or a group of people wished for you to fall. There are only two reasons. First, they are unsecured about your position. Second, you have what they don't have.

In this time of global plandemic, this toxic working environment exists even if you work-at-home, in skeletal force, and even inside the academe. Remember, if you are no longer happy, you leave. Why stay in a company that gives you a toxic environment every day.
