NBA Playoffs, one of the most anticipated parts of the league, will finally begin. However, what is really at stake why many teams want to get the title? How much money will they receive?

NBA teams are scrambling every season to make it in the playoffs. Once they make it in this round, all teams will be on equal footing except for their rank. However, this will give every team a chance to make it in the finals. 

Aside from getting a championship ring and trophy, players are doing their best to get the title because of the enormous amount at stake. This season, teams who made it in the playoffs will split an amount of $23,287,266. This amount is $1.6 million larger compared last year.

According to a published article in USA Today, if Milwaukee Bucks will get the title this year, they will split the amount of $6,827,848. The team has already secured $1,606,897 by having the best record in the NBA. They also have the best record in the Eastern Conference and made it to the first round.

This is the breakdown of what the teams will split from the best team:

  • First-round qualifiers make $347,545.
  • Conference semifinalists get another $413,534.
  • Conference finalists get another $683,363. 

Of course, the highest amount will go to the winning team. The losing team receives another $2,732,699, while the NBA champions get another $4,124,054. 

Last year or last season's NBA Champion Toronto Raptors received an amount of $5.6 million from the playoff pool. 

Players Chasing History

Kawhi Leonard's team, Los Angeles Clippers, is one of the teams expected to make it in the finals. If ever they will get the title, it will be history in his end. If he gets the title as the LA Clippers MVP, this is something that nobody has ever done, three Final MVPs in three different teams.

He was the Finals MVP for San Antonio Spurs in 2014 and the same title last season for Toronto Raptors. Aside from Leonard, Los Angeles Lakers star player Lebron James and NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabar won Finals MVP's in two different teams. 

Power of 23

If the Toronto Raptors will win and get the title this year, no doubt that the team's lucky number is 23 or 23-9 to be specific. 

When the NBA season stopped due to the global pandemic, the team's record was 23-9 at home and the same paper on the road. 

During the seeding games at Orlando, they went into 7-1, and they went 16-8 last season. Combining the records, that makes the team 23-19. 

Game 1 Success

In the NBA history, teams that win Game 1 during the playoffs in the best-of-seven series will ultimately win the series. 

However, there were six teams last year who were doomed in their series even though they won during game 1 in their match-up.
