"Dancing With the Stars" winner Maksim Chmerkovskiy has a new rumored girlfriend, replacing previous rumors that he is in a relationship with his former partner, Meryl Davis.

"It's really new," a New York Daily News source said.

This week, NY Daily News reported that Chmerkovskiy is dating Jennifer Lopez. According to the newspaper's sources, Lopez became interested in Chmerkovskiy after he lifted her above his head during the 2013 American Music Awards.

"You saw [their chemistry] at the AMAs?" an alleged insider told the newspaper while winking.

Life & Style has reported that Chmerkovskiy, 34, and Lopez, 44, were "inseparable" recently at Los Angeles' Redbury Hotel.

"At one point, he put his arm around her waist, and they seemed to be locked in a very passionate conversation," the tabloid reported.

According to NY Daily News, the alleged lovebirds will be spotted together much more frequently now that Lopez is no longer with Casper Smart, and MediaTakeOut claimed they will be "making the 'official' announcement any day now."

Other sources, however, say the rumors are false.

"They are friends," an Us Weekly source allegedly close to Lopez said. "She doesn't have a second to date anyone right now and is definitely not romantic with Maksim."

An E! Online source said the two are just "friends" but are close because of Leah Remini, a former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant reportedly still close with her former partner, Tony Dovolani, and Lopez's good friend.

"Leah and Jennifer are best friends," the source said. "So as a group, they're all very friendly. [Chmerkovskiy is] in India, and [Lopez is] at the World Cup right now. Who knows what could happen down the road?"

Another Us Weekly source, who the tabloid said wants to see the two date, agreed with this theory.

"Leah is trying to play matchmaker with Maks and Jennifer," the source said. "She's really egging it on and encouraging it."

Neither Chmerkovskiy nor Lopez have commented on the rumors.

"I don't comment on Maks' personal life," Chmerkovskiy's "irriated" rep told NY Daily News.
