Xbox Series X, Series S Details Get Leaked Online
Xbox confirmed that different pieces of data leaked on its new Series X and Series S consoles are true.
The Xbox Series X and Series X leaks included the prices and release dates for both. It also had a sneak peek of what the Series S console looks like.
The news of Xbox Series X coming with a new, cheaper console has been around for some time. They are both part of the stream of next-gen consoles the company plans to release.
Windows Central's Jez Corden and Zac Bown reported some of the most reliable tidbits. As per their report, the Series S is worth $300 while the Series X will cost $500.
The confirmed release date was on November 10.
An Unconfirmed Leak
The news on Series S's release started off as unconfirmed rumors. It started with Twitter user Brad Sams tweeting a supposed poster that showed the $299 price tag for the console.
It was later followed by Twitter user WalkingCat with a short video showing off the same design as the Series X.
The image was corroborated by analyst Daniel Ahmad but couldn't confirm the price then. It is not clear where the leakers sourced their clips.
Hours later, Xbox released an official poster on their Twitter account saying, "Let's make it official!" In it, they said Series S offers next-gen performance in the smallest Xbox ever.
If the console is indeed as shown in the leaks, it will be of the same appearance as the Xbox One S. The Xbox Series X is also similar to the One X.
The console was shown at a vertical orientation, but the orientation of Xbox' logo may suggest it is not its primary configuration.
According to the video from WalkingCat, the Series S is much thinner than the Series X. This could make it easier to fit under many TVs.
The system appears to have no disc drive, just as The Verge had previously reported.
How Next-Gen is Series S?
At $300, some doubt how "next-gen" the new console may be compared to other Xbox consoles.
The console reportedly has a four teraflop machine to Series X's 12 teraflops. Gamers could be giving up a lot for the low price, if that is the case.
Forbes noted that it could be like a streamlined, upgraded, but also discounted Xbox One X.
Ars Technica added that Series S may still have some of the technical leaps in Series X. One example is "velocity architecture" that allows for faster game loading or fancy graphics.
Yet, it might run the same effects at lower maximum power. It might have lower pixel resolutions and lower frame rates.
What to Play?
The November release date is no surprise for many gamers. It comes right before gamers' "hell week".
Games such as Cyberpunk, Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed will be coming out at around the same time.
Nothing on Sony's side has been leaked yet, so fans of their games are still left in the dark. But any new releases may be around the same price for at least digital models.
Release dates for Sony may also be around the same time.
