A House Bipartisan Group Will Introduce $2 Trillion Stimulus Package
A bipartisan group in the House which is composed of four dozen members will introduce a new stimulus package worth $3 trillion after the Republican-led stimulus bill was rejected.
A bipartisan group that is evenly composed of both Republicans and Democrats drafted their new stimulus package worth $2 trillion. This is to counter the rejected stimulus bill that Sen. Mitch McConnell introduced last week.
The House Problem Solvers Caucus included in their $2 trillion proposed stimulus package the second round of stimulus package, an extension of unemployment benefits, and PPP loans. According to the group, the aid they will suggest would last at least until next spring.
Lawmakers who are involved in drafting the new stimulus bill hope that this will be the last attempt to close the deal on the stimulus package's round. They also aim to deliver what millions of Americans need before they leave Washington to focus for the election
The House Problem Solvers Caucus is headed by Republican Rep. Tom Reed and Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who has four dozen members. However, the bill is expected to meet scrutiny and strong resistance in the Senate.
It can be remembered that the Republican-led stimulus bill was only around $650 billion. Though the Republican lawmakers supported it, it falls short of reaching 60 votes and getting into the Congress. However, Republican lawmakers are still optimistic about a new bill.
The House group will try again to propose a new stimulus. They also said that they voted to endorse the bill earlier this week. They also said that they consulted the White House in drafting the bill. This means that Trump's administration was involved in the planning, and they claimed that there was a positive response from the White House.
However, the bill needs to meet the gap of the political mindset of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The Republican lawmakers firmly believed that there are still billions of dollars that are still yet to be spent, including the $500 billion.
Moreover, few Capitol Hill members expect that a deal on the new stimulus will be reached in the remaining weeks before both House and Senate will leave to focus on the election. Additionally, the new stimulus checks that the House Problem Solvers Caucus drafted included $600 unemployment claims.
The plan is to give $450 weekly unemployment claims for the first two months and will be increased to $600 per week, provided that it will not exceed the person's previous wage. However, this art of the bill is expected to be questioned and criticized.
The proposal also includes $500 billion for state and local governments, $15 billion for the U.S. Postal Service, and $400 million for election assistance. The entire package of the new stimulus bill is $2 trillion because it includes the budget for the COVID-19 vaccine.
They also clarified that they stipulated in their proposed bill that the total package will decrease by $200 billion if the national economy improves based on specific metrics that they are following.
