R. Kelly's Teenage Child Jaya Announces He Is Transgender
R. Kelly's 14-year-old child announced over the weekend that he is transgender via his social media pages.
The teen, who was biologically born a female and named Jayla Kelly, announced that he has transitioned to a boy and now goes by the name Jay on what appears to be his Ask.fm profile.
"I believe I am a boy and want surgery, and the medication to help me (be) who I was supposed to be," he posted.
Apparently, Jay's mother, Andrea Kelly from "Hollywood Exes," was aware of Jay's new gender identity for about a year and is fully supportive of him. The reality star has even shared photos expressing her love for the teen online. However, Jay's superstar dad has not spoken to him since he made the announcement, reports the Daily Mail.
According to Jay, his mother accepted his new identity immediately.
"My mom was like, 'Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, lesbian, you name it and I would still love you so much,'" he wrote. "She was very proud of me, I was like, 'Thank you mom for accepting the fact that I'm a transgender.'"
He continued, "And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me."
He added that he plans to go under the knife for a sex change once he is older.
He also explained that he knew that he was attracted to girls and wanted to become a boy at a very young age. He said that he began identifying as a boy around 6 or 7 years old, and by 11 he was already inquiring about gender realignment surgery.
"From a very young age he knew he did not want to be a girl, wear dresses, grow his hair long or have breasts or female sexual organs," the Daily Mail reports. Via Ask.fm, he said that by aged 11 "I would look up like boy changes to girl, and girl changes to boy, and im like wow, theres people who feel EXACTLY the way i feel and then i knew like thats what transgender is."
At the moment, Jay does not plan to date. Instead, he says "I got a lot on my plate right now."
In 2009, the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer filed for divorce from Jay's mother after 13 years of marriage with Andrea, his former backup dancer.
