Bobby Dale Earnhardt DUI: NASCAR Legend's Grandson Arrested on Drunken Driving Charges
Bobby Dale Earnhardt turned to social media to apologize following his arrest earlier this week on charges of drunken driving in West Virginia.
The 25-year-old racer is the grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt. He is the son of Kerry Earnhardt and nephew of Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The racer expressed his remorse in a post on his Facebook page. "I wanted to let you all know I made a terrible mistake last night drinking and driving and I am thankful nothing bad happened from my stupidity and I know it could have," Earnhardt said.
According to The Associated Press, Earnhardt was pulled over after making a wide left turn at a "high rate of speed" on the road. Earnhardt's blood alcohol level was .193, twice the legal limit in West Virginia. Cpl. R.C. Basford wrote that Earnhardt's eyes were glassy and his speech slurred. Basford also wrote that Earnhardt claimed he took two shots of liquor at a bar that night. He was charged with a misdemeanor for driving under the influence and he spent the night in jail. He could face up to six months in jail if convicted of the charge.
According to his website, Earnhardt plans to race in the 2013 ARCA Truck Series. It was reported that he recently moved to Charleston from Rockingham, N.C., to gain experience as he prepares to compete in NASCAR races.
Per the Associated Press, Earnhardt says he hopes "to make it up to each and everyone of you and in the future to be a good model."
Earnhardt's apology was also posted on his Twitter page (@BobbyEarnhardt). After apologizing, he maintained his committment to work at a charity event on Tuesday. "On my way to Beckley to keep my prior promise to the veterans at the va medical center see y'all soon," he tweeted.
