7 Subtle Symptoms of COVID-19 That You Should Watch Out For
The majority already knew the common COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, shortness of breathing, and dry cough. But there are also lesser-known symptoms of COVID-19 that you might not know.
Most of us likely already knew the COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, shortness of breathing, dry cough, as well as loss of sense of taste and smell. However, there are reports that revealed how some subtle symptoms may linger to patients even after they recovered from the virus.
This time, another survey conducted by Dr. Natalie Lambert of Indiana University School of Medicine and Survivor Corps unveiled COVID-19 symptoms you might not know before. Here are some of them, according to a recently published article in MSN News:
1. Syncope
Cleveland Clinic explains that syncope is the temporary loss of consciousness due to a drop in blood flow to the brain. According to a published research in Heart Rhythm, this condition may appear before any other symptoms and can also manifest to those who are asymptomatic.
2. Herpes, EBV, or Trigeminal Neuralgia
COVID-19 can result in inflammation and this will manifest in different ways. Some of those who tested for the virus may experience herpes, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and trigeminal neuralgia. There are instances where COVID-19 patients will also experience fatigue, inflamed throat, fever, and facial pain.
3. Cracked or Dry Lips
It is a fact that infectious and deadly COVID-19 can dehydrate a person's body. This can result in dry and cracked lips. In fact, in the survey conducted, around 73 people suffered from this condition and this lingers even after they recovered from the virus.
4. Mouth Sores or Tongue Pain
Mouth sores or pain in the tongue can signify many things and COVID-19 is just one of them. A study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases found evidence that those who recovered from the virus may still continue to experience this symptom.
5. Tinnitus
Tinnitus or humming in ears can be an irritating and confusing sensation. According to the American Tinnitus Association, the condition is often associated with stress and anxiety - and also damage to the inner ear or the development of other conditions or diseases.
6. Floaters
According to UCLA Health, floaters are basically flashes, specks, or lines of light that float around your field of vision. Sometimes this comes along with other COVID-19 symptoms.
7. Phantom Smell
Phantom smell is different from losing your sense of smell. This is a type of COVID-19 symptom where the patient smells things that are not actually there. Mayo Clinic describes this as hallucination and is commonly caused by upper respiratory infections.
These are the seven COVID-19 symptoms you might not know. It is still suggested that even if a person does not experience these COVID-19 symptoms, everyone is encouraged to observe measures such as handwashing, wearing of face mask, and strict observance of social distancing.
