Majority of Farmers To Vote Trump in the Election
A recent survey shows that majority of the farmers or 71 percent across the country will vote for Pres. Donald Trump in the upcoming 2020 U.S. presidential election.
The majority of the farmers across the country expressed their support to Pres. Donald Trump days before the election. A survey from agriculture information service DTN revealed that around 71 percent will mark Trump's name on their ballots.
This is despite the different policies of the Trump administration that hit the agriculture industry including his trade wars with China, Canada, and Mexico. This pushed the farmers to close their markets and also decreased their commodity prices even further.
However, many farmers will still vote for Trump and he is expected to win the votes of the agriculture industry. One of the farmers shared through the news outlet The Hill that he will vote for Trump because he knew that the Pres. can handle the present situation amid the pandemic.
It can be remembered that Trump and his administration have given financial aids to the farmers during the wake of the pandemic. His administration made sure that there are enough money and assistance given to the farmworkers and owners who are mostly immigrants.
In fact, Trump's administration has given $28 billion in assistance to offset trade losses over the past two years. This is after the Trump administration signed a trade war with China, Canada, and Mexico. His administration also gave another $30 billion during the pandemic, according to ABC.
Even though some farmers are not going to support Trump or more or less 20 percent of them based on the survey, it is still cannot be denied that prices are higher and subsidies were given to the agriculture sector during the trade war.
Aside from that, many farmers explained why they are going to support Trump. Jeff Samuelson, who grows corn and raises pigs near Tipton, Iowa, expressed his concern over Hunter Biden and his fear that the Democratic Party is moving far too left.
"I hope that whoever is elected president understands agriculture has a vital role in the national economy and that there are a lot of jobs that are tied back to farming. But I'm not selfish enough to vote for someone who's just going to be 'good for the farmers,'" Samuelson said.
Additionally, a Republican supporter Curt Knutson said that Trump is the best fit for the farmers and he also thinks that Joe Biden's promise to transition away from fossil fuels would hurt the agriculture industry. This could also be one of the factors why Trump got the support of the farmers.
Some other persons and groups are not going to support Pres. Trump despite his effort for those who are affected by the trade war and the global pandemic. Pam Johnson, who recently served as the Biden surrogate at a Farm Foundation debate, expressed her frustration after she knew that majority of the farmers will vote for Trump.
