iOS 7 Release Date 2013 Rumors & Features: iPhone 5C Debut, Backups for Big Thumbs
The internet continues to buzz with rumors surrounding the new iOS 7 operating system set to debut soon. Let's take a look at what has been said about the new iOS 7, along with the new iPhones that are set to accompany it.
The iOS 7 beta 5 edition is out, and so far, the reviews have been largely positive. Though critics have almost universally panned the choice of color scheme for iOS 7, with Zack Whittaker of ZDNet even claiming "it looks almost burlesque in nature," overall, people seem pleased with the new operating system.
"Most notable among the new iOS 7 features: the helpful Control Center that contains quick access to important settings; the built-in parallax that shifts the background image in response to one's movements; a new way to multitask apps; the AirDrop feature for sharing photos or documents with other iPhone users in the area; and much more," reports Dave Smith for IB Times.
While there are certainly plenty of brand-spanking new features that iOS 7 will either bring back or re-implement from previous generations, there are also new features that build upon the success of previous operating systems. For those who have ever lost a crucial e-mail due to the slip of a thumb, this one may prove to be especially useful:
"The last task you perform before hitting the Trash button is always to check off an email. This means that you must now move your finger from left to right, as opposed to simply moving down. This helps guard against deleting emails you really wanted to keep," observes Joe White for appadvice.com.
Alright, so clearly there will be plenty of advancements in whatever final form iOS 7 debuts. But just what new iPhone will the iOS 7 be placed inside? There have been several theories on that, and so far, Apple has been tight-lipped about their plans.
While there has been talk of an iPhone 6, it appears that the much more likely alternative is that Apple will go ahead and produce an iPhone 5S instead. Where it gets interesting, however, is the rumor that an iPhone 5C may be on the horizon. The 5C is believed to be much cheaper than all previous iPhones, and will come in an assortment of colors. Though Apple CEO Tim Cook hasn't confirmed the rumors, he hasn't done much to dispel them either.
"However [Cook] then also blurted out, when asked about the possibility of cheaper iPhones -- 'We've had a great track record on iPod of offering different products at different price points.' -- which many have taken to mean confirmation they're working on one," write the folks at T3.com.
Several prominent sources have come forward to say that the reveal date for Apple's long-awaited reveal of its new iPhone and matching operating system will be Sept. 10. The iPhone could hit stores later that month.
