A pregnant woman and her passenger were found tied up and burned alive inside a car, according to investigators.

The bodies of Ellen Priscila Ferreira da Silva, 24, and her passenger Ely Carlos dos Santos, 39, were found inside a car poured with gasoline and lit on fire on Oct. 17 near Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Family members identified Da Silva's and Dos Santos' remains. According to a Newsweek report, Da Silva's mother recognized that the car belonged to her daughter as reported by local media.

A married man in Brazil allegedly killed Da Silva, who was pregnant with his child.

Da Silva reportedly refused his demand to get an abortion, according to a KNewz report. Da Silva was four months pregnant when she was burned alive.

Four men were arrested, along with a 35-year-old woman for the murder of Da Silva and Dos Santos. One of the suspects was the 38-year-old married man who had allegedly impregnated Da Silva.

One of the leading officers in the investigation, Paulo de Tarso, expressed contempt and anger towards the suspects.

"One of the suspects even personally comforted the victim's mother after her death was confirmed," De Tarso said in a report.

It was later found that the wife of the 38-year-old suspect is pregnant too. The wife, later on, confessed to being behind Da Silva's death.

Reports said that Brazilian cops are investigating three potential intent behind the crime. Some of the motives that investigators are eying are revenge, crime of passion, and drug debt.

De Tarso said that Ellen and Ely Carlos might have also been indebted to a drug dealer, who was also arrested.

"Ellen also refused to abort the child conceived in the extramarital relationship," De Tarso continued.

Officers then found that the car of alleged Da Silver's lover traveled to the scene where she was burned.

At first, Da Silva's lover told the cops that he had also been attacked the day Da Silva was burned alive. He then changed his story and said he had invented it. He said he injured himself on purpose while he was out of his mind because of illegal drugs.

Another man is believed to be involved in the crime. The investigation is still ongoing.

Brazil's murder and the homicide rate for 2014 were 28.60 percent, a 6.72 percent increase from 2013.

In 2015, the murder and homicide rate stood at 28.40 percent, a 0.7 percent decline from 2014. The year 2016 recorded a 4.58 percent increase from 2015 for Brazil's murder and homicide rate.

Meanwhile, it further increased by 2.69 percent the following year, marking 2017's homicide and murder rate at 30.50 percent, according to a Macro Trends report.

For crime rates, the rate increased by 30.50 percent in 2017, which is a 2.69 percent high from 2016. The 2016's crime rate and statistics was 29.70 percent, which was also a 4.58 percent increase from 2015.
