Some Latino voters who feared dictatorships supported President Donald Trump because of the agenda of the Democratic party, which closely resembled socialist regimes they wanted to escape.

According to Fox News, Margarita De Castro, a Latino voter, fled from Cuba to Miami amid Fidel Castro's regime in the 1960s.

She told  USA Today that she is afraid that Kamala Harris, the Democratic Vice-President-elect, is 'another AOC,' even if Harris never fully embraced the more progressive agenda of Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who dubbed herself as Democratic socialist.

Harris has stopped short of embracing most of the policies won by the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.  With a bloc of Cuban American voters, the Trump administration won the favor.

Those voters supported his hardline stance on Cuba following Trump's abandonment attempts at diplomacy brokered and reimposed economic sanctions on the island nation. It also tightened travel restrictions that had been relaxed under former President Barack Obama.

On the campaign trail, President-elect Joe Biden said he would consider reversing course while reattempting diplomatic advancements with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Besides, some Trump voters say they are alarmed by the censorship and praise of socialism they have witnessed. 

The idea of a presidential election devolving into a months-long battle for control of the country might be unprecedented for many Americans. However, many Latino voters who support President Trump escaped authoritarian regimes themselves. The scenario now raises old ghosts. 

Trump refuses to concede after almost two weeks of the general election. He has instead continued to summon the support of his 73 million voters. He solicits "election defense funds" to challenge the results in a handful of states where Biden holds small but significant leads. 

Trump and his supporters pointed to ballots being cast by dead people, counting absentees received after Election Day, and malfunctioning equipment, as evidence of their claims. However, the Department of Homeland Security stated on Thursday, calling the election "the most secure in American history."

Republicans succeeded in casting Biden as a "Trojan horse for socialism," in Florida, where he lost by 375,000 votes. Biden links to Ocasio-Cortez and Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, who was criticized amid the Democratic primary for praising Cuba's communist literacy program. 

Fox News added a sample, Giancarlo Sopo, a Cuban American communication strategist on the Trump campaign, who slammed Sanders for past comments praising social welfare programs under Castro's regime, despite the dictator's often repressive human-rights violations against its fellow Cubans. 

Moreover, Latino voters expressed angst at social media giants like Twitter for flagging tweets containing misinformation and several media outlets for putting Trump's remarks following the election. Trump declared himself the winner prior to the official results of the clear winner.
