Apple has introduced a new tech with the launch of their iPhone 12 series. This is the lidar sensor.

The new sensor improves portrait photos and night mode shits capture by iPhone 12 Pro's rear camera as it speeds up focus and portrait mode photos.

However, these are not the only things that lidar sensor can help you with, as reported by CNet.

Lidar means light detection and ranging. This sensor works by bouncing lasers off of objects to measure their distance based on how long it takes for the light to get back to the sensor.

The sensor is not a new technology. iPad 2020 Pro has lidar tech too. This is also sometimes used in self-driving cars.

Aside from best photo results, you can also use the lidar teach by measuring an object.

Report said that you can get a rough estimate of more than just a person's height with the Measure app.

You can also use it to get dimensions of a piece of furniture to see if it can fit through a door.

CNet says with addition of the lidar tech on Apple devices, the app is getting more accurate measurement of objects.

Also, lidar sensor can be used to create three dimensional apps of a room, or a 3D recreation of some object.

The good news is you can then print out on a 3D printer your creation when you use an app like Polycam.

CNet's Scott Stein said that Apple Arcade game Hot Lava uses the lidar sensor to scan a room.

After then he could hide virtual stuff behind real items in the room.

Lidar senson can help provide more apps an update to improve the augmented reality.

However, there is no telling what else people can see from compatible iPhone and iPad models.

Hardware Problem

However, the company Apple has quietly confirmed that they are selling the latest piece with a serious hardware problem.

Apple has acknowledged that iPhone 12 models are suffering from issues such as flickering, green, and gray glowing, and other lighting problems, according to a Forbes report.

However, Apple's internal document told Authorized Service Providers to refrain from servicing affected units for now.

This may be due the company would want to try and fix some of these issues through software updates, as reported by Forbes.

Apple, however, does not provide any timeline for this.

Apple's iPhone 11 range has also suffered from green tint problems before.

Affected iPhone users say the problem stay in Apple's then iOS 13.5.5 beta.

The company then replaced some units under warranty. It managed the milder cases through a software update of iOS 13.6.1.

The iOS update came about two months after the first reported problems.

There were leaks that Apple's next-gen iPhone 13 are already revealing its display will be one of the biggest improvements in the model.

Forbes said there will be hopes that this display issue will not occur for a third continuous model generation.
