Health officials had shut down a South Florida bar after a maskless crowd gathered upon the bar's reopening. 

The Wharf Fort Lauderdale has just reopened Friday after being closed for months because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state's health officials said the bar violated pandemic protocols after it was flooded by swarms of maskless partygoers, as reported by Breitbart.

"If they're not making patrons wear masks, they're leaving us no option other than to shut them down," Broward County's Mayor Steve Geller said in a report.

County officials visited the bar three times on Saturday, and they said the bar violated COVID-19 guidelines with each visit.

Health authorities said The Wharf Fort Lauderdale allowed customers to enter and order from the establishment without masks. They added that the bar did not have a Plexiglass divider.

Meanwhile, the bar denied the claims that they let people enter without masks, adding that they handed out extras to patrons who did not have any.

In a statement, the bar said that guests chose to ignore the rules and gathered near the main bar once inside the open-air venue. That was despite the bar having over an acre of property, where they could practice social distancing.

Officials only ordered the bar to close for 24 hours, but the bar said it would not reopen until it can do so under normal circumstances.

Co-owner Emilio Guerra said that people want to grab a drink and walk around. Guerra added that they built The Wharf for customers to have "a certain experience."

"And with the guidelines and regulations being forced on us, we unfortunately have to close down," Guerra said in a report.

The Wharf's management took to Twitter to announce that with the statewide spike in cases and local regulations, they will be temporarily closing down their doors.

The Wharf also tweeted that they will reopen when they can provide the proper experience for their patrons at their outdoor venue.

Boward County's emergency guidance mandates people to wear a facial covering in public and urges everyone to practice social distancing, as reported by CBS News. This is by at least having at least six feet distance from other people.

The county's guidance also advised the public to avoid groups and crowded places. The county's protocols further noted that residents should patronize local businesses while ensuring that they comply with the health guidelines provided.

Geller said if an establishment is not requiring its patrons to wear masks, they have no choice but to shut the business down. He noted that their goal is not to shut down businesses, and they only wanted compliance.

Geller added that if they have to shut down businesses that are directly violating the laws, maybe that will send a message to others. He said businesses have to obey the guidelines to ensure the public's safety.

Florida has recorded more than 924,000 COVID-19 cases with more than 17,991 deaths as of Monday, based on statistics provided by the Florida Department of Health.
