Republican David Valadao has snatched the House seat from Democratic Rep. TJ Cox in California's 21st Congressional District, reclaiming the seat he lost two years ago.

Cox ousted Valadao during the 21st Congressional District two years ago by 862 votes, as reported by the Associated Press report.

After withholding his back in 2016, Valadao eventually supported and endorsed President Donald Trump. However, Valadao stressed his independence as he criticized the Trump administration for family separations at the border and promoted his willingness to work across party lines.

AP News reported that the 21st District looks like it should be a Democratic stronghold. But California's agricultural sector has been known for Republican residents, voting reliably. Democrats, on the other hand, often do not.

With Valadao's victory, Republicans picked up their 11th seat overall in the House of Representatives and the third seat in California.

Valadao showed to be not an easy to beat after he first won in the election in 2012.

He fended off Democratic challengers by focusing on water for agriculture, among other issues. However, his winning streak changed in 2018, when Democrats got seven GOP-held House seats in California as voters dismissed the Trump agenda.

The 21st was among those, but the results were not settled until weeks after Election Day. Valadao has tried to distance himself at times from the president. However, Trump has described the former congressman an amazing guy that he wanted back in Washington.

Valadao topped the primary filed in March with nearly half the vote. Cox focused on health care and immigration reform in a district of the Latino population during his campaign.

Valadao lobbied to support more water agriculture during his campaign and accused Cox of siding with radical environmentalists.

Valadao declared his win on Wednesday even before the AP has declared the victor of the race. 

In an online video posted this week, Valadao has vowed to pass a coronavirus relief package and improve the health care system. He said this is so everyone can get the care they need when they need it most.

Valadao said people desperately need relief this Thanksgiving as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, causing struggles in the community and nation.

"The only way we will get through this is by sticking together as Americans, not divided by political parties. When I head back to Washington every resident of the Central Valley has my word that I will continue to always put this community first," Valadao noted in an AP report.

The Republican candidate also tweeted his victory, saying that he is honored to receive the support of California voters and looked forward to returning to Congress and represent the Central Valley.

Valadao expressed his gratitude to those who worked to make the voice of the Valley heard, according to a The Blaze report.

Cox has yet to concede the election. On Thursday, he posted on Facebook that he would not make a statement on the election results until every vote is counted.
