President-elect Joe Biden received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday and offered praise for the Trump administration.

Biden and his wife Jill received their shots at ChristianaCare Hospital in Newark, Delaware and will be getting the second Pfizer dose in roughly 21 days, USA Today reported.

Biden also offered praise for the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed in its successful effort, said an article by New York Post.

"I think that the administration deserves some credit getting this off the ground with Operation Warp Speed," Biden said, before giving an awkward fist-bump to his vaccine administrator.

Neither of them was wearing gloves.

Biden Touts Vaccine as Safe

According to Biden, he was getting the vaccine jab to show Americans that it was "safe to take."

He said he wanted to do get the shot publicly for more public confidence in it but added that he didn't want to take spots from health care professionals who were advised by regulators to receive it first.

Other U.S. political leaders who were inoculated included Vice-President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Jill Biden was with her husband but did not have her shot on-air as some expected.

Biden Discouraged Travels for Christmas

With the holidays coming, Biden discouraged fellow Americans from travelling as COVID-19 cases surged despite vaccine distribution.

He urged people to listen to experts' advice and to follow safety measures.

"It's really important because we're still in the thick of this," Biden said.

Someone who had been noticeably absent from the list of vaccinated officials is President Donald Trump.

According to CBS News, the White House hasn't said if or when Trump himself will be receiving the vaccine, despite his previous infection in October.

But the Post said the President will wait before receiving the vaccine as Trump discusses timing with his health care team.
