Mexican President Asks Biden to Quickly Fix Immigration Status of Mexican Nationals in US
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Wednesday that the new administration should quickly fix the immigration status of Mexican nationals in the United States.
AMLO asks Biden to immediately work on immigration policy
Mexican Pres. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is asking the new U.S. federal government administration to immediately act on the immigration policy. Specifically, granting dual citizenship to Mexican nationals living in the U.S. for quite a long time.
During Biden's inauguration as the 46th President in the U.S., the Mexican President released a statement asking Biden to quickly fulfill his promises on the immigration plan. There are millions of illegal immigrants working in the U.S. just waiting for their applications to be processed and approved.
Meanwhile, changes in immigration policy have been the core of Biden's presidential campaign. It was also one of the keys which led to his victory in the presidential race. On the other hand, immigration is something that Trump rarely mentions in his campaigns.
Obrador said, "I hope that today or in the coming days he presents the migration plan. What it is going to consist of, how they are going to respect their right to be recognized, that they get dual nationality." Having dual citizenship is very important most especially for Mexicans who continue to work in the U.S. amid the threat of the global pandemic.
The Mexican President also said that such a move will help Central American nations and southern Mexico who send migrants of workers in the U.S., according to a report in Fox News,
Biden's immigration plan
Just hours after Pres. Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday, he sent legislation to the U.S. Congress that aims to overhaul the current immigration policy that will lead to the citizenship of 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, according to LA Times.
Biden's transition team also announced that the new immigration bill will devise a new system "to responsibly manage and secure our border, keep our families and communities safe, and better manage migration across the Hemisphere."

How important are immigrants in the U.S.?
Immigrants are very important in the U.S. most especially in this time of the global pandemic. They are the working force of different sectors like in the field of agriculture, law enforcement agencies, frontline healthcare workers, household workers, and more.
Most of these workers have questionable immigration status or illegal immigrants. This status is also the reason why they did not receive financial support or any aid from the government.
This is despite the fact that they risk their health just to provide for the needs of Americans who follow the stay-at-home order.

Amid the pandemic, most Mexican immigrants in the country are on the field and making sure that there is enough food or the food chain remains stable. However, they were not able to the different financial assistance like the stimulus checks of the government due to their immigration status.
